Muellersches Volksbad Munich

If you're in Munich and you like Art Nouveau and would like to go swimming or to a nice sauna place I can recommend Muellersches Volksbad. It is very close to Rosenheimer Platz or Isartor. ( Approximately 10 minutes walk from there) and during summer it has a little cafe in front of it where you can sit and enjoy the sun. And of course also very nice to go there in winter when it's freezing cold outside and you can sit in a hot sauna!

And some pictures from inside ( where I couldn't take pictures ;))

Gartensalon Schwabing

I went to a very nice breakfast place this morning, Gartensalon in Schwabing. It's a cozy place in a backyard of Schwabing in Amalienpassage with a lot of things to choose and a very nice atmosphere.

Molos Greek restaurant Munich

Finally a sunny day in Munich after a couple of days of rain. That's why Tim and I decided to go out for dinner today. Greek food during summer is simply the best, Gyros with Tzaziki and Pita... yummy! A Greek restaurant that I can recommend in Munich is Molos. It is a little bit posh but the food is very good and you can sit outside and as soon as it gets dark they have candles which is quite romantic and perfect for me as the candle person :)

Beer garden Augustiner Munich

This weekend we are going to the beer garden with the entire family. Beer gardens are the best place to be when it is summer in Munich. Most of them have chestnut trees and it is allowed to bring your own food the only thing you need to buy is ( the name already tells you :)) beer/drinks. People also "share" the bench with strangers which is very nice as you get to know a lot of new people very easily Due to the trees it is a little green area in the middle of the city and it is cooler than at most places plus it is very refreshing to drink a fresh beer or shandy. My favorite beer garden in Munich is Augustiner Keller. For me it is the most traditional one and even though it can be crowded on very hot summer days you will still find a place to sit due to the big size of it.

Dallmayr Munich

I am on a lot of customer visits currently and we always bring them a little gift and my favorite place to go for these gifts is Dallmayr. An also if you are visiting Munich it is one of the must sees and must buys :) . It is a deli food store that was founded 1700 and has its own branded high quality food and used to be one of the purveyors to the court of the Bavarian king back in 1900. It is very close to Marienplatz in Dienerstrasse.

Picture: Dallmayr

The furniture is still very old fashioned and I really like that. Even though the food is expensive, I like the atmosphere and the many different things you can buy and to be sure to buy good quality.

You can also see in the logo that they are using that they were one of the purveyors to the court:

If you are in Munich it really is a nice place to go ( but please not on a saturday as it will be crowded!)

Have a lovely day!

Nymphenburg Castle

Yesterday I've been visiting the Nymphenburg Castle in Munich. The castle is situated in the city Munich so you can go there by public transport and it has a huge green park with fountains and swans, the way you would expect a royal park to look like. This is the view you have when coming to the castle:

And some pictures from inside the castle:

After the visiting the castle I spent almost 2 hours just walking trough the park, birds were singing and the scent of the blossoming lilac was everywhere. It was just a perfect afternoon.

Alof Café Munich

One of the many advantages of living in a city like Munich is that there are so many restaurants and cafés which you can try and you could spend years and would still not be able to try every single one.

This weekend I will go to a café I haven't been before: Alof Café in Hans-Sachs Street. I've heard that this place is very cozy and everything is homemade. I look forward to going there and will be back with a feedback soon. :)

Christmas market Blutenburg castle

I've been at almost every Christmas market in the center of Munich, but this year I found out that there is a Christmas market I haven't even heard of before and which is not so well-known ( which is very good in a big city like Munich). Blutenburg castle is in the Western part of Munich and I will go there this weekend.

Munich

It has been a while since I've been able to blogg. I've spent so much time in the new job everyday that it's almost the same like in the old job, but this one is far more interesting. After work, when I come home I fall asleep immediately and wake up again the next morning back to work. But today I was able to leave the office a bit earlier and I showed our guests Munich and I also wanted to show you what I saw today in the evening:

Have a lovely evening!

Lights in Munich

I went to Munich city center today and I couldn't believe my eyes, they have already turned on the Christmas lights! Very early this year, was my first thought, but why not? It's already very dark outside early in the afternoon and it really helps to make the dark time better. And it's always sad that they put the lights down immediately after Christmas, like that we all can enjoy it a bit longer...

Octoberfest Munich Outfit/ Wiesn 2013

The Octoberfest in Munich is one of the world's famous festivals. In 2013 it will be from 21st of September until 6th of October and all the shops are filled with the traditional outfits. If you go to the Octoberfest you should definitely wear a so-called "Dirndl" (which also means "girl" in Bavarian) and is the traditional dress for women or a so called "Lederhos'n" (which can be translated as "leather trousers") , everybody wears it.

These are some very nice examples which I found in the 2013 collections from the various brands. You can get all sorts of materials, colours and length:

And of course you can choose different apron colours as well. But be careful where to tie your apron :), on the right side it means that you're married/in a relationship on the left side it means that you're single.

Hats are very "in", this fashion trend has started 2 years ago:

Some people even buy wedding "Dirndl":

Instead of a "Dirndl" women also wear "Lederhos'n" with different length:

or with knee socks:

and these are typical and traditional outfits for men:

If you should be in Munich during this time, have a really nice Octoberfest!

Old friends and Sushi

I've met one of my oldest friends today after at least 8 years. We've been 8 friends at high school, 4 couples and none of us is still a couple. We used to be together everyday after school, then we all finished high school and all went different ways. The only one left from that time in my life is my best friend who lives in Copenhagen. It's strange to see someone after all this time, someone you knew very well a long time ago, but you can't tell who he is nowadays. He has gotten quite old ( I guess he'd say the same thing about me :)) and he's been working for a consulting company the last 6 years, so I think that's why. It was a little bit strange in the beginning I didn't know where to start to tell him what has happened in the last 8 years. Such a long time and so much has happened... but after a while it felt somehow familiar. Why do we loose good friends on our way through life? He was really the one I could talk to when I was sad and he would always help me. He was the one who convinced me to eat sushi in high school so therefore we went to a sushi place today.

I wonder how it will be in another 8 years, what will I be able to tell then?

Pyramid cake during summer

The typical season for pyramid cake is actually during winter, when the snow is falling and you eat it while drinking a hot chocolate. Last winter I didn't have a chance to eat it and all of a sudden I came to think about it right now. In the middle of summer, in June. But I really like pyramid cake, so why not trying it with some fresh strawberries?
I sometimes get these crazy ideas so I went to the bakery which sells these cakes during winter and they even have it during summer! ... And that's the proof, I'm not the only one thinkig about pyramid cakes right now :)

First Pyramid cake during summer... I can tell it was very good :)

First of May

It is so wonderful to have a day off from work in the middle of the week. We had a late breakfast and then we took our bikes to cycle to Isar (Munich's river). This is one of the great things about Munich, even though it's a city you have a lot of recreation areas with trees, parks and grassland. But Isar is definitely the best one, you can even go swimming in the river during summer or have a barbecue there. When we came back we had an ice cream in the little park that is in the courtyard, I just want to show you how nice it is when the cherry tree blossoms :

You know I love Christmas, but this part of the year is special too. Looking forward to picking the ripe cherries in a few weeks :)

Have a good first of May!

First Biergarten Day in Munich

Today was my first Biergarten (beer garden) Day in Munich for this year, because it was very warm. I love this part of the year when it's still sun when you leave work and you go to a Biergarten together with your friends or colleagues to drink a beer or in my case a "Radler" (Which is a mix of beer and lemonade) and just enjoy the rest of the day.

Photo: hofbraeukeller
One of my favourite Biergarten here in Munich is the "Hofbräukeller" beer garden which is on "Wiener Platz"but today we just went to a beer garden close to work. I'm so looking forward to going there with Tim this weekend, hope the weather won't change.

Being a tourist in your own city

We've been at so many places all over the world and you know we will soon be on our way to Bali and Singapore, but when our friends from Denmark were here we went on a sightseeing tour through Munich. And I must say you sometimes get blind for the beauty of your homecity and it was fun to be a tourist in my own city and to see it with different eyes again. Munich has really some very nice places to offer:

This a an entrance at Odeonsplatz with very nice ornaments.

One of the typical things to do is in Residenzstrasse, where you find these Lions, passers-by rub his nose, which is supposed to bring luck. Of course our friends did too :), who dosn't need luck?

Then we went to Max-Weber-Platz to go to the "Hofbräukeller" at Wiener Platz. This is one of my favourite beergardens during summer, but this time we went inside for a "Weissbier", as the beergardens are still closed and it's snowing outside.

Have a nice evening!

Dinner at Monsieur Hu Munich

We went to a restaurant named Monsieur Hu in Munich's Dreimühlenviertel. It's a Pan-Asian restaurant with a very stylish interior and a very cozy atmosphere. It was the first time that I tried this restaurant and I can really recommend it.

I had a curry with beef and vegetables and it was very delicious, I think we have found a new favorite :)

Have a good rest of the weekend,
