Malmö

After almost 1 week in our house on the country side I also spent 2 nights in Malmö where my grandma lived. I love these red bricks and the green roofs that have been formed and changed by the wind and time. the northern part of the city is so cozy with restaurants and shops and the river that flows through the city.

Summer in Sweden

I told you the light is special in Sweden in summer... It is especially if you are in one of the various forests. The air is so fresh and the light gives everything this golden shimmer. For some listening to the sea and the waves rolling onto the beach is the most relaxing thing to do - for me it is in the forest being in the forest listing to the birds singing, seeing the light through the trees like in the forest around our house in Sweden:

Back from Sweden

I'm finally back in Munich from my trip to Sweden. Back from long days with a very special light, hering, sweet dark bread with salted butter, shopping in antiques shops and a very relaxing time! I'm going to share the things I saw over the next days :)

I'm always sad when I go back even though I also like living in Munich. I guess it would be the same if I lived in Sweden and would need to leave Munich. That's the feeling of being split between 2 countries and 2 cultures.

I look forward to show you everything and even more when my parents come back with the car and all the shopping I did ;)

Summer and Sweden here I come - Happy Midsummer!

I'm on my way to Sweden und Summer!

Picture :storaensoskog
I will be there for 10 days and will not be able to post a lot as we don't have internet in our little house in the middle of the woods. Which is bad and good at the same time as people from my work cannot reach me either ;)

So speak to you after my holidays in Sweden and...

GLAD MIDSOMMAR!

Shopping in Sweden

I will definitiv need to go into Lagerhaus when I'm in Sweden. My bag will be full with new ides and new things from Sweden and I look forward to seeing all the things. It is like an eldorado for me. It is there where I find most of my decoration, new blankets ... everything as it is really my style and I cannot find it in Germany or anywhere else unfortunately.

European championship

Tonight Sweden will play against Irland in the European football championship. I need to keep my fingers crossed even though I also like the Irish team very much :) I'll be out on a dinner with customers which means I cannot see the game but I hope to be able to check the live ticker :)

Pågen's Gifflar

If you grew up with 2 different cultures and live most of your life in one of the countries you miss the other culture very much. That's why I was really happy to find Swedish Pågen's Gifflar in the German supermarket today. It is a cinnamon bun and it tastes white good, especially with a glas of milk ;)

Blueberries - Sweden

I've booked my flight to Sweden! I can't wait to go there. It really is my favorite vacation of the year as it is my home. At our summer house time goes a little bit slower and I look forward to do a simple thing like picking blueberries and of course eating them with whipped cream :) Only a few weeks left!

Elsa Beskow monthly pictures

You know I am a big Elsa Beskow fan. She created a picture for every month picturing the typical nature for this month. I don't have kids yet, but for me this is something I will definitely have for my kids and change it every month. Happy 2nd May!

I also like very much what Amanda showed in her blog to buy the smaller version and put it into a white frame:

And of course Fish. This is also one of the best things, as I live in Munich you never get a chance to eat fresh fish from the sea. And then of course potatoes with dill. Yummy!

Santa Lucia

Today people in Sweden celebrate Saint Lucia, Santa Lucia. Since I was a child I've always been Lucia in my family, dressed in a white long nightdress and a crown with lights on my head, singing the Lucia song. December is perfect for me not only because this is the best month of the year for me but also because I can celebrate all the Swedish and German traditions.

I've also attached a video where you can here the Lucia song and see how it's celebrated in Sweden:

Table Decoration

My Mum loves to decorate, I think that's something I've learned from her and she loves fly agarics for Christmas. This was her decoration for first Advent when I was at my parent's house on first sunday of Advent:

These small fly agarics are candle holders which she has bought in Sweden a couple of years ago on a flea market and she was so happy. I like the way she mixed it with the pine branch:

I'm looking forward to finally showing you parts of my decoration tomorrow!

Fish

One of the things I really miss being back in Munich, is that you can't get good fish! Just some dill potatoes and a fried fish, is sooo delicious and a typical summer dish. We had fluke with melted butter and potatoes...

It's really a pitty I can't get it more often!

Rut på Skäret Restaurant

One of my favorite restaurants in Sweden is Rut på Skäret. It's such a cozy place and of course we went there this time too. The way to the restaurant is very nice and you can see part of the hydrangeas that are growing on each side and in the garden of the restaurant. Doesn't it look like coming to someone from Noisy Village? Normally we sit outside but this time it was too cold, for me it feels like autumn as it's quite cool here in Sweden and it rains a lot.

What I also like about it is the clean and simple design: a white tablecloth, salt and pepper, a hydrangea and a candle in typically Swedish candleholder:

And also a picture from the inside of the restaurant:

And the food is delicious here, so promise me to try it if you should be in Skåne!

Have a good evening!

Small Scandinavian Details

I'm currently visting a lot of friends and relatives here in Sweden and I like the small Scandinavian furniture details like using a porcelain for flowers and basil. These are bowls and cups from an old Danish porcelain. Together with the typical white and grey or beige colors used here in Scandinavia it makes a perfect match, don't you think so?

Flickorna Lundgren på Skäret

One of my favorite cafés in Sweden is Flickorna Lundgren på Skäret. It's like going back in time. You can buy homemade bread and cakes from a little shop that is really like in the 19th century surrounded by a huge garden where you can order coffee and just sit and enjoy the view over flowers and the sea.

They serve coffee in a kettle made of tin and the waitresses wear aprons which could be taken from a picture of Carl Larsson.

if you should be in Sweden some time, promise me to go to this place, it's really so cozy and one of my favourite places in Sweden.

Homesick

I'm looking for wedding locations in Sweden at the moment and I can't help the feeling of getting homesick. It's been since Christmas that I haven't been there so it's almost a half year. I do fell at home here in Germany too, of course, it's where I grew up, but the older I get the more I feel bad when coming back to Germany. I've already thought about it so many times in my life, why it's like that, even here. But there is a simple example: the day before I flew to Sweden I had to get into Munich City Center to get a few things, people where aggressive, stressed, pushed you through the shops with their elbows and I was so happy to be back home. This wasn't the way I had expected a calm and nice Christmas shopping... Then I came to Copenhagen and the moment I landed and went into the city with my friends, people didn't seem to be stressed at all, they stood there with their Christmas beers and just had a really good time and it was the same in Malmoe. It was there that I started to have a real Christmas Peace.

But at least i can celebrate my wedding there :), I found a really nice place which I wanted to show you. It's a roasting house, that also has an apartment which you can lent:

Sommar med Ernst 2013

As you know I like the Swedish TV Series "Jul med Ernst" (Christmas with Ernst) and "Sommar med Ernst" (Summer with Ernst), and they have just started the new 2013 summer project in a hotel called Kohlswa Herrgard. I'm really looking forward to seeing it on Swedish online tv in july and august. The host Ernst Kirchsteiger has a special way to present this series, it's very cozy- In winter he returns to the places he renovates during summer, to decorate them and celebrate Christmas there. These are some pictures from the last season (2012) of "Sommar med Ernst":

Klitterbyn

One of my beloved memories of my childhood is the vacation in Klitterbyn in Sweden. This is a little village made of wooden houses for rent which is very close to the sea. When we went to Sweden during summer time it was always also 2 weeks that we spent there.

Photo: klitterbyn
My grandma had always been there a few days before we came to Sweden and had cleaned everything and made köttbullar. On the way to the beach there were wild strawberries and raspberries growing on each side of the way, which my grandma and I picked.

As we are going to get married in Sweden too, I would like to spend some time there, even if I know that it's never going to be the same again...
